Give your clothes a second life with creative patching, darning, and visible mending techniques.
Join The Useless Project at the Hugh Lane Gallery Café for a Patching & Darning Workshop that transforms worn-out garments into cherished pieces once again. A welcome drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) is included in your ticket.
The evening begins with a 45-minute introduction to the fundamentals of darning and patching, practiced first on scrap fabric to build confidence. From reinforcing weak spots to experimenting with visible mending, you will learn how to strengthen and personalise your clothes in creative ways.
Bring along an item of clothing you would like to repair and get personalised advice as you put your new skills into practice. No prior sewing experience is needed. This workshop is perfect for beginners and seasoned menders alike.
✨ By reimagining clothing through repair, you will discover a simple truth: up-skilling beats landfilling. ✨
