A one-day, creative experience for young people to explore their imagination using materials that would otherwise go to waste.
As part of Cruinniú na nÓg, a nationwide day of free creativity for children and young people, The Useless Project presents The Rubbish Room: a one-day immersive workshop where imagination is the only limit.
Think of it as art class meets treasure hunt. Participants are given buckets of discarded materials such as milk cartons, cereal boxes, fabric scraps, old wires, bottle caps, buttons, bubble wrap, and more, and are challenged to transform them into creative masterpieces.
There are no templates, no instructions, and no right or wrong answers. Just materials, imagination, and the freedom to play. Children might leave with homemade toys, sculptures, costumes, inventions, rockets, robots, or even something that doesn’t have a name yet (but definitely should).
This joyful workshop gives young people the chance to see waste in a new light, proving that creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand.
Note: All children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
